In the vibrant and ever-evolving world of music festivals, certain events capture the essence of a city’s cultural fabric while creating an unforgettable experience for attendees, one such festival that has been making waves in recent years is Cross The Tracks. Held annually in London, this multi-genre celebration brings together music lovers, art enthusiasts, and communities from all walks of life.
Cross The Tracks Festival, launched in 2018, has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting and diverse music festivals in the UK. Set in the scenic and historic Brockwell Park in South London, the festival combines a stellar lineup of artists, delicious food, captivating art installations, and a strong sense of community spirit. With its eclectic mix of genres, including jazz, funk, soul, disco, and electronic music, Cross The Tracks provides a platform for established and emerging artists, creating a rich and immersive experience for attendees.
This year saw the debut performance of NxWorries, a new supergroup from Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge, saw out the day with a groove-filled, optimistic, heartwarming set. Anderson’s infectious energy and engaging stage presence commanded the attention of the audience, creating an electric atmosphere. Backed by Knxwledge, who informed the crowd “This is going to be a sing-along set’, the performance was a celebration of music and an experience that left a lasting impression on festival-goers.
Also on the main stage was multi-talented singer, songwriter, and musician Masego. Since 2015 Masego has been making waves in the music industry with his distinctive fusion of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop. His smooth vocals, infectious melodies, and masterful saxophone skills have earned him a dedicated following and critical acclaim. Whether he was serenading the Cross The Tracks crowd with a heartfelt ballad, throwing out (fake?) money, or getting everyone on their feet with an uptempo groove, Masego’s skill and easy charisma made him our highlight of the day.
Over on the second stage was Hak Baker. The East London singer-songwriter and guitarist brought raw and poetic brilliance to the festival. Known for his introspective lyrics, gritty vocals, and unique blend of folk, hip-hop, and grime, Hak’s raspy, soulful voice carried a rawness and authenticity that added depth to his performances. He effortlessly transitions between soulful crooning and rapid-fire rap verses, showcasing his versatility and dynamic range as a vocalist.
Another stand-out performance from the day Lunch Money Life which we accidentally stumbled across and were immediately captured by the fascinating fusion of intricate rhythms, dissonant melodies, and atmospheric soundscapes, resulting in an immersive and unpredictable listening experience. With their fearless approach to genre-bending and their willingness to push musical boundaries, Lunch Money Life are definitely a band to remember.
Cross The Tracks Festival has emerged as a trailblazing event that celebrates the power of music, art, and community. With its diverse lineup, inclusive atmosphere, and commitment to local engagement, the festival has carved a special place in the hearts of music enthusiasts and festival-goers alike. As it continues to grow, Cross The Tracks Festival remains a shining example of how music festivals can be platforms for cultural exchange, artistic expression, and social cohesion. If you’re seeking a truly immersive and unforgettable festival experience, mark Cross The Tracks on your calendar and prepare to be moved, inspired, and captivated.
